Bat Country captures one of the novel's most iconic moments, where the ordinary landscape gives way to hallucination and dread.

The page is interrupted by a swarm of bats, cut directly from the text itself. Emerging from the words rather than sitting upon them, they transform the page into the landscape of Thompson's imagination, while the unmistakable silhouette of Raoul Duke anchors the composition below. The remaining text continues to speak through the image, preserving the rhythm of the original page even as reality begins to fracture.

The papercut is composed from a single page of the novel and hand-finished in the studio. Each work carries slight variations in the underlying text from which it is cut.
