A studio edition papercut inspired by Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

The mothership hangs above Devil’s Tower, reduced to a black-on-black silhouette. Rather than using colour or printed detail, the image is revealed through the cuts themselves — and through the shadows they cast.

The work changes with its surroundings. In softer light, the image almost disappears into the black ground; under directional light, the structure of the mothership and the surface of Devil’s Tower become more pronounced.
This is the original studio proof made during the development of this edition — cut before the final release to test scale, detail and construction.

Proof cuts may contain small differences from the finished edition and retain the marks and variations of the making process.

Each piece is individually cut from 150gsm black paper and hand-stitched onto 300gsm black card, with a 5mm foam-board backing for additional strength and depth.

The artwork is A3 in size (297mm x 420mm)
