Edition XII — Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

Same Fire was created for Volume I of The Novel Print Archive.

Created from two pages of Jane Eyre, the work cuts the printed text into a dense, organic field of flame-like forms. The two pages are brought together as a single composition, with fragments of Brontë’s language remaining caught within the fire.

The work draws on the recurring presence of fire throughout the novel — destruction, desire and transformation — but also Jane’s refusal to surrender her independence. The cutting was deliberately free and intuitive, allowing the flames to grow through the text rather than following a predetermined pattern.

Originally released as the twelfth monthly edition of the Archive, this past edition is now available individually.
