War of the Worlds// On Horsell Common Fine Art Print

A landscape inspired by the arrival of the Martians in H. G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds.

The work begins with my own original photograph, developed using traditional cyanotype techniques to produce the characteristic Prussian-blue image. The resulting cyanotype was then scanned at high resolution and digitally reworked, introducing the towering form of a Martian tripod into the landscape.

Two small figures remain at the edge of the woods, dwarfed by the machine emerging through the haze.

The title [3] ON HORSELL COMMON references Chapter III of Wells’ novel, On Horsell Common — the point at which people begin gathering around the object that has fallen from Mars.
